# CDM AR-AMS0007

The **AR-AMS0007** document is a **methodology for small-scale afforestation and reforestation (A/R) project activities under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)**.

The main purpose of this methodology is to enable and provide procedures for:

* **Afforestation and reforestation of land not classified as wetlands**: The methodology applies to any land that does not fall within the wetland category. Small-scale A/R activities implemented in wetlands are covered by a specific methodology, "AR-AMS0003: Afforestation and reforestation project activities implemented on wetlands".
* **Soil organic carbon (SOC) management**: If the land in its initial land use has a soil organic carbon (SOC) content expected to be higher than what would occur under "forest" use, the methodology imposes a restriction: soil disturbance in the project must not exceed **10%** of the area. This may occur due to the nature of the soils (e.g. organic soils) or anthropogenic activities (e.g. untilled soils with the addition of external organic matter).
* **Broad applicability**: Apart from the restriction on soil disturbance for certain soil types and land use practices, the methodology has a broad field of application. It is not necessary, for example, that the land to be afforested or reforested be degraded.

Specifically, the AR-AMS0007 methodology covers the following types of small-scale A/R project activities:

* **Grassland to forest land**
* **Cropland to forest land**
* **Settlements to forest land**
* **Any other type of land except wetlands**

The objective is to facilitate small-scale afforestation and reforestation projects, providing guidelines for accounting for changes in carbon stocks and reporting net anthropogenic GHG removals, with particular attention to the protection of soils with high organic carbon content.
