# Methodology & Standard

Carborea's initiative stems from the desire to rebuild the social fabric and revitalise the economy of Salento, a region severely affected by the Xylella bacterium that has destroyed over 20 million olive trees. The objective is to support farmers and the community by offering individuals and companies the opportunity to offset their carbon footprint through the purchase of carbon credits generated by new plantings.

With its proprietary methodology, standard and reference practice, Carborea aims to create a more accessible, reliable and effective voluntary carbon market, ensuring that the credits generated are a faithful and verifiable reflection of real and lasting climate benefit, with a positive impact on both the environment and agricultural communities.

Through its approach, Carborea seeks to address the challenges of the VCM — such as limited transparency, market complexity and fragmentation, and difficulties in verification and additionality — by offering methodological rigour and an integrated operational structure. The use of blockchain technology is fundamental to guaranteeing the integrity and credibility of the carbon credits generated, ensuring transparency, security and immutability of information throughout the entire value chain.
